Patriot Games 2018
Saturday November 10th, 2018

Patriot Games is BACK for 2018!  This event is probably the one throughout the year that we get asked about the MOST.

There will be some CHANGES on the horizon for the 2018 version of this event.  But, before we go into the changes, let’s start with what is going to stay the same.  This event will REMAIN ONE LONG AMOUNT OF TIME on the workout floor. At the call of 3,2,1,go!  You and your team will be going for 70-80 straight minutes. There will be built in breaks and you may get “rest” if you finish certain sections/”WODS” under the time caps.  But, once we say “GO” you will NOT leave the floor until we call “TIME”.

Now, for the CHANGES; In the past we have had two person teams and 3 divisions (MM, MF, and FF).  We will NOT have this format for 2018. The NEW format will be TEAM OF THREE ATHLETES OF ANY GENDER.  Yes, ANY GENDER!! You can have a team of 3 women, or 3 men, of 2 males and a female, or vice versa 2 females and a male.  There will ONLY be 1 division, “3 athlete teams”. Some may remember an event we used to do called “Battle of the Sexes” in which teams of males and teams of females competed in the SAME division doing the SAME workouts.  We haven’t done that event in the last couple of years, this will be a way of bringing that idea of having EVERYONE compete on the same “playing field” back but, maintaining that “one long workout” feel.

What the change will mean from a programming standpoint:  A max lift where the score is total weight moved will NOT show up.  A team of three men would have a distinct advantage over a team of women in a scored event like this.  A potential way to accommodate this would be a max rep lift. So, instead of a 1rm squat for a score of weight, we could have a male weight and a female weight where the score would be how many reps you could get in a given time.   From the standpoint of common workouts. We often compare our times in many named workouts across genders. Take Fran; if someone says they have a 2min Fran time we are typically just plain impressed. Our admiration or awe of a good time is not subject to the gender of the athlete that performed it.   CrossFit as a community is very good at having workouts where men and women can compete and compare themselves to each other, and we think that this will make this event bigger, better, and more approachable than years past.

2018 Pricing:  We are going to have two prices for 2018; 1 for BEFORE release of the workouts, and one for AFTER we release the workouts.

  • Registration will open on Tuesday 8/14/2018 and the price will be $65/athlete ($195/team *inclusive of all fees)

  • The full written workout for the event will be released 2 weeks later, once the workouts are released the price goes up to $75/athlete ($225/team *inclusive of fees)

When you sign up this year, you will be choosing a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for your heat time.  We plan on having 5 heats, 8:30am, 10:00am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, & 3:00pm. We will be doing our absolute best to give you the heat time that you want, but in some cases we may need to drop to your 2nd or possibly third choice.
